Occupational Driver’s Licenses & DWI in Grimes County, Texas

To find out if you may qualify for a restricted license, consult Grimes County DWI attorney Doug Atkinson today! He can review the particular circumstances of your license suspension or revocation and determine whether you can apply for an occupational driver’s license.

Restricted Licenses in Grimes County

An occupational driver’s license is a restricted license which is issued to a driver whose license has been suspended or revoked by the Texas DPS (Department of Public Safety). With an occupational driver’s license, a driver may drive for limited purposes only:

  • For occupational purposes (except not to operate a commercial vehicle)
  • For educational purposes
  • To carry out essential household duties (grocery shopping, doctor’s visits, etc.)

To be eligible, you must get a court order from the county or district court in the county where you live or where your offense occurred. Upon filing a request with the court, a hearing will be held wherein a judge will determine whether you may be granted an occupational driver’s license. It is important to work with a lawyer when you apply for a court order, and it is even more important that our lawyer represent you at your hearing. This will likely be crucial in the judge’s decision, as an experienced lawyer will know exactly what information is needed and what the court will want to know.

After receiving a court order, you will be granted a 30-day temporary license while the DPS processes your request for a restricted license.
